It's accurate in all cases involving a family income of less than $300,000 per year. The calculator incorporates health insurance costs, child care costs and obligations for pre-existing children and extraordinary needs. The guideline child support amount is the standard provided by the North Carolina Courts and is adhered to in nearly all child support cases. Using the calculator as part of the negotiation process usually results in achieving a negotiated settlement of child support and avoids the need for protracted litigation.
